Okay, I get the message...

 Here I sit, months after blogging about how I need to learn how to rest... with pneumonia. Forced to "rest" at home for about a week now, too weak to get out and do anything. I haven't been to work in 6 days, and I haven't had this awesome, rejuvenating period of rest, either. I just feel light-headed and nauseous and I have this annoying, gargling fluid in my lungs. It's not been any sort of "break" or "rest" from work, but instead, a forced period of doing nothing because I physically can't do anything. Walking up stairs feels like I ran four miles. And I'm not a runner. All of this is to say that if God wanted to force me to rest, He's accomplished that. I get the message. If I won't prioritize rest for myself, then rest was going to come and find me. I get the message. I must admit, all of this is coming at a rather strange time in my life. The World that We Live In- A Prayer

Brandon Flowers, the lead singer of The Killers, included a beautiful lyric in one of his songs, "The World that We Live In." This is the world that we live in, and I feel myself get tired. Boy, is this ever true. I just started a new job this summer, which is so exciting, but in all of that excitement I have been so busy adjusting to working life that I really haven't had time to poke my head out and look up at the world around me.  In some respects, that's a good thing. I have been able to temporarily shield myself from state of our nation and the hurtful rhetoric being used against the least of these. However, when I do have time, or if there is something that is just too big to ignore, it hits me like a train. I am suddenly, instantly aware of just how broken our world is, and how deeply we need our Lord Jesus to come. Maranatha . In today's reading, the people of Israel were enduring some pretty tough times. They were about to have half the population destroyed, and were about to be given off to a mean king that would work them in agony for 70 years. But God promised them that when the 70 years were up, He would take back all the believers and pull them out of the sadness. It's almost like God was saying "you'll be going through some tough times, but I promise I will deliver you one day." It's supposed to make them feel better, or safer, but it's hard sometimes to know that times are getting better when they seem so tough now.
