Malachi 1-4
This is exciting, guys! Today we finish the Old Testament by reading the last book, Malachi. I'm so excited to finally get to the stuff about Jesus, and see events that really shape Christianity.
I feel like in the Bible, we learn about two major things, God and Jesus. Although it's argued that They're the same person, all part of the trinity... I feel like the Old Testament is about God and His laws, and then in the New Testament, Jesus is born, and we get a new way of living. Still the same God, but things were tweaked a bit.
So, in saying that, we need to understand what God is trying to teach us, in both parts of the Bible. We need to understand that He is ultimately in control. It's just like teachers, or our parents. Even though, sometimes, what they say seems weird or unnecessary, we trust them anyway. They're our parents. They're our teachers.
In many ways, God is our teacher. He's our father, too. And unfortunately, we treat Him with disrespect. We need to understand that God loves us like a father loves his children, and He wants the best for us. I loved this excerpt from today's reading:
Blemished Sacrifices
"A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?" says the LORD Almighty. "It is you, O priests, who show contempt for my name.
"But you ask, 'How have we shown contempt for your name?'
"You place defiled food on my altar.
"But you ask, 'How have we defiled you?'
"By saying that the LORD's table is contemptible. When you bring blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice crippled or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?" says the LORD Almighty.
Malachi 1:6-8
God isn't JUST a teacher. He isn't JUST our governor. He is SO much more, so we should respect Him and His ways even more than those of other higher people in society.
That's why, I think, it's important for our leaders to base their decisions on the Bible. Even though they're important in our society, God is far more important than anyone in any society.
