IDOLS AND STATUES AND SACRIFICES-- OH MY!
I've always wondered what God thought about all the idols people were worshipping. Believe it or not, people are STILL worshipping idols. Maybe not for Christianity, but for other religions. Anyways, I've always had my own opinions on idols and their worshippers. We've been taught since bible school that the golden calf is bad, and that bowing down to people is wrong. Making sacrifices is bad! Idols are wrong, and sinful!
But I guess I never thought about it. I've never questioned how God felt about the situation, and since the book of Habakkuk is a giant conversation with God and Habakkuk... we get to see what God thinks of idols-- in His own words. Pretty sweet stuff.
Of what value is an idol, since a man has carved it?
Or an image that teaches lies?
For he who makes it trusts in his own creation;
he makes idols that cannot speak.
Woe to him who says to wood, 'Come to life!'
Or to lifeless stone, 'Wake up!'
Can it give guidance?
It is covered with gold and silver;
there is no breath in it.
But the LORD is in his holy temple;
let all the earth be silent before him.
Habakkuk 2:18-20
So, there ya go, folks. The words of the Lord-- displayed for all to see. I pray that God will open His Words to you in many ways today, to see all He has to teach us!
Peace out.
