Esther 4-7

DON'T BE A IDIOT.

I guess this is a pretty personal story, but oh well. Dad, if you're reading this-- no offense was initially intended.

Okay, so sometimes when my Dad's talking, he doesn't use correct grammar. I mean, I guess I'm not too good at grammar either, which I'm sure you've realized by now. But what's funny about my dad is he says "a idiot" when he means to say "an idiot."

Something to do with articles, and vowels... and blah blah blah.

But anyway, I just think it's funny that he tries to make fun of someone by calling them idiotic, and ends up sounding pretty darn ignorant himself. I still love my Daddy, and I don't want him to be mad when I'm telling everyone this. He's trying to change, anyhow! That's a good start.

THE POINT of this rampage is that sometimes we try and put someone down, and in turn, we end up being the "idiot" per say. In today's reading, (which is now my NEW FAVORITE BIBLE STORY!) just that happened.

If you haven't already, read these four short chapters (Esther 4-7) at http://www.bible.com/ or with the BIBLE READER to the right of this post. You can also read them with your real Bible, if you want to!

This guy named Haman was against Jews because of a stupid grudge. He wanted all of them killed, just like an ancient Hitler, almost. He and the king were buddies, so Haman took advantage of the power.

But the king's wife, queen Esther, was a Jew. Secretly, of course. She and her guardian Mordecai decided to have a feast and try and persuade the king to NOT let the Jews be killed. It was risky, but Esther wanted to make a difference, which is what I like about this story.

When Haman was walking home, he saw Mordecai grieving and didn't bow down to Haman or anything, so Haman designed a huge gallows thing for him to be hung upon.

Meanwhile, the king was hearing about the awesome acts that Mordecai was doing, saving kings and whatnot. When Haman arrived to ask if he could KILL Mordecai, the king was pretty stealthy and said "There's this guy who is just plain AWESOME and needs to be recognized for his efforts. What should we do for him, man?"

NOTE: These weren't the actual words.

Haman was SO self-absorbed he assumed the king was talking about him (Haman) so he was all "Have him ride around town on a horse with a royal robe!"

And of course, the king agreed, and Haman had to lead Mordecai out on a horse around town.

Then when Ester had the dinner, she asked the king if he'd spare the lives of the Jews, and the king was unaware that anything like that was happening, so he asked her who proposed the idea, and of course, Haman did, so HAMAN GOT MURDERED ON HIS OWN GALLOWS.

Don't be self-absorbed. Don't be a idiot.

Peace out.

When you don't have good feelings for others, it never turns out right! You have to treat others as you want to be treated. When we fall short of this, it is always a disaster and we are the failures.
