Matthew 23:12


For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

"...Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
~Mark 10:43-45

Dear Jesus,

You sacrificed Yourself on the cross, and You didn't even do anything wrong. But we, Jesus, are sinners, and are selfish sinners, at that. Help us to remember all You have done for us, and help us stop pretending that we are the center of the universe.

Help us interact with Your people that way You would want us to-- in love, respect, honesty, and patience. Help us mend what is broken, for we know that when we interact with others, we are interacting with You. When we turn away from people, we are turning away from You.

Please be with those we are unable to be with, and let them know they are loved by us and by You. We love You, Jesus, and pray all of this in Your Name,

Amen.

Brandon Flowers, the lead singer of The Killers, included a beautiful lyric in one of his songs, "The World that We Live In." This is the world that we live in, and I feel myself get tired. Boy, is this ever true. He washes his disciples feet. washing someones feet was usually done by the lowest ranking person in the room, it was a dirty job because everyone wore sandals on the dirt roads, plus everyone walked everywhere. When Jesus does this he knows that his time on earth is coming to an end and that he needs to teach his disciples another lesson: humility. We all need to take this lesson in, especially in the world we live in today, sometimes we think things are beneath us to do, maybe it's babysitting your little brother, moving the lawn, cleaning up the house, or something more. But we need to learn that we need to be willing to do God's work in the world, doing whatever it takes to get His message out there.
