STUFF THAT LASTS FOREVER.
When I think of things that last forever, unfortunately, society has brought these few things to my mind:
Beef Jerky
Vampires
and, of course, God's Love.
I want to remind all of you that although beef jerky and vampires do live forever, they should come to mind AFTER the obvious thing: God's love for us. His forgiveness. His grace. Because these things can't expire, no matter what you think.
In the book of Hebrews today, it's talking about how the old sacrifices are obsolete and don't need to be sacrificed anymore. I loved this passage:
Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said:
“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire,
but a body you prepared for me;
with burnt offerings and sin offerings
you were not pleased.
Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll—
I have come to do your will, my God.’”
First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”—though they were offered in accordance with the law. Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Hebrews 10:5-10
"Once and for all" rang through my head after reading this. Because even though the Hebrews did sacrifices for centuries, and still weren't forgiven, that all changed when Jesus came to the world. He became the ultimate sacrifice that lasts forever. The other sacrifices of animals seemed a little silly when people understood they were always loved and forgiven because of Jesus.
You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For,
“In just a little while,
he who is coming will come
and will not delay.”
And,
“But my righteous one will live by faith.
And I take no pleasure
in the one who shrinks back.”
But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.
Hebrews 10:36-39
With faith in Jesus, we too will love forever. We won't shrink back and be destroyed... not even death will stop us. We will live with Him forever, and that's something to be happy about.
Peace out... forever.
