Revelation 1-3
THE ULTIMATE GIFT.
So, it's pretty much Christmas time right about now... and I thought the devotion should have a Christmas theme. I know what you're thinking-- that I'm going to go on and on about how "Jesus is the best gift ever given!"
I'm a little more creative that that, don't you think?
In today's reading, we started the final book of the Bible, *gasp!* Revelation. John is writing to seven churches about this dream he had, in which some heavenly creature revealed this crazy vision to him. He then understood it as a dream about the coming of Jesus, when He comes again to save all the believers.
I know, this sounds a little sketchy. A little weird, perhaps? I'll be honest, when I was reading, I couldn't help by wonder if this is too crazy to be true.
But then, I began to read all about the promise that was foretold in John's dream. And soon enough, I came up with this clever little way to process all that's happening in the book of Revelation:
We all know those certain commercials that seem too good to be true. For instance, the Billy Mays commercial about mighty putty. Have you seen that one? Billy goes on to talk about this clay-like putty that supposedly fixes everything.
It can fix leaks, and hold things on walls. It can pull tractors. It can probably fix just about anything, or so it claims. And yeah, I'll agree... just like the book of Revelation, it can seem a little too crazy to be true.
However, there's still this little part of you that wants to try it out, right? It's only 19.95! BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! They'll even double your order! That's too good to pass up.
So, almost on an impulse, you have to try it. You call the 1-800 number and order your mighty putty. You were a little hesitant about it... but you had faith in Billy and what he was saying, so you got the putty.
AND GUESS WHAT? It works!
Now, let's focus back on the Bible.
This crazy book, Revelation, is a little like mighty putty. It seems crazy and unrealistic. But there are so many claims it has, like eternal life, and a kingdom with God, that you just have to try it out.
If you give into the Bible, and the book of Revelation, even if you're hesitant, you'll begin to see that it's worth your time. BUT WAIT-- THERE'S MORE! Not only will you inherit all that it speaks of, but you'll have the gift of getting to know Jesus!
So, this Christmas, be thankful for Jesus and His birth. It might sound a little crazy, but if you just try it out, you'll be thankful. So take Revelation with a grain of salt, and try to begin to understand His love that will one day take us away.
Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.
Revelation3:10-11
Peace out.
