Day Nine
Day Nine -- Genesis 28-31
(Read these chapters on www.bible.com if you haven't already.)
Hola! The last time I logged on, I left off with the story of Jacob and Esau. You know, the oldest son, Esau, who was supposed to get his father's blessing. But the mother of the two brothers loved Jacob (the youngest) more, so she tricked her husband into giving Jacob the blessing.
Esau was very angry, and got mad at his brother. The two men split... and took off into different directions.
Today's reading was about what Jacob did with his life, and it has a really important message. A lot happened in the few chapters I read... again, it's like a giant Soap Opera.
Jacob married his uncle's daughter, Leah, because she was the oldest. But, he really loved Rachel, Leah's younger sister. He worked for his uncle for a really long time in order to marry Rachel, his real love.
Leah was furious (there's a lot of sibling rivalry in the Bible,) and then, the two sisters decided to get into a hugeeee fight that could only be resolved by "the sister who is best is the one who has the most babies from Jacob."
So, yeah. They competed by seeing who could have the most children, using their maids to bear children if they were unable. It's a mess.
Then, Jacob and his uncle got into a big fight and Jacob took his wives and all his children and ran away, taking all the sheep that belonged to him. His uncle followed him once he found out what Jacob had done, and it turned into a huge dramatic ending with lies, and secrets, and the hiding of Jacob's uncle's most prized possessions.
The message of the story (or how I think of it anyway,) is this:
If your life seems really messed up, and maybe your family is falling apart, or your family is going through a rough-patch... you can always remember that
My life isn't as complicated and crazy as Jacob's.
Go in Peace, God Bless!!
