Day Thirty-One

Day Thirty-One -- Leviticus 11-13

Read these chapters with the BIBLE READER to the left of this post, or at http://www.bible.com/. Do you like this post? Share it with your friends on http://www.facebook.com/ or at http://www.myspace.com/. They might need the encouragement, and it might help them receive the WORD OF GOD.

So, guess what we read about today? More rules of what the Israelites could and couldn't do. Fantastic.

But, it has a pretty good message.

How many of you have a friend that is Jewish? Or, maybe you are a Jew! Regardless, the stuff you read today should ring a few bells if you know a little bit about Judaism. First, the chapters we read were about which animals were clean and unclean.

If these rules stand today, then I am definitely unclean.

Then, we moved on to what women have to do in order to be clean. Again, if these rules were true, I am unclean. Shame on me.

Next, the Bible talks about skin diseases and rashes and skin burns and which cases are clean, and which ones are not. If these laws stood today, then I am unclean for sure.

And what about mildew? Apparently, if I left out my towel overnight and mildew started to grow on it over time... then I am an unclean person.

Overall... if these laws stood today, then I would be a very very very very unclean person, and I would have to be cut-off from society. You're probably wondering, then, why don't these laws stand today? How come Jews still try and obey these laws, but Christians don't have to?

The answer, my friend, is the answer to many questions. His name is...

JESUS.

When Jesus died on the cross (which happens in many chapters to come...) he became the ultimate sacrifice, and people started to believe in Jesus instead of the rules they had become accustomed to.

So, there you have it. Now, I want everyone to understand that when Jesus was resurrected on the cross, that doesn't mean we need to forget every law that is set out for us in these last couple of week's readings.

There are still some laws that we need to continue to be aware of. I've already talked about the Ten Commandments, and what they mean to us, but today I want everyone to just be refreshed, and be able to start a new week that's coming up with a good understanding of what it means to follow Jesus.

So, take a deep breath and cleanse yourself for a minute. After reading about what it means to be "clean" and "unclean..." just take a breath and get this:

Jesus is the purest thing there is. In order to truly be clean, we need to have Jesus in our souls, and think of him in whatever we do.

That's the true answer to being truly clean... be pure and spotless in everything we do. It's impossible to be perfect, but if we try to be like Jesus and act like him, then we can become pretty darn close!

Go in Peace!
