RESPECT YOURSELF.
The world is constantly changing. People are becoming more engulfed in material things, especially teenagers. Am an an expectation? No way. I love my technology, and my stuff. But it just makes me wonder when we stopped respecting ourselves instead of our stuff.
I believe at one time, people took pride in how they held themselves up, and they liked who they were. But it just seems like people are getting closer and closer to a world where people change themselves to impress someone else.
Or, we buy material things (not necessarily for our benefits,) but so people get jealous of our "fortunes." We change our beliefs, our language, our clothing-- just to fit in. And you know what? It's pretty annoying.
Since when was it uncool to do well in school? Or to be a role-model? Or to go to church?
The world is changing, and before we know it, everyone will be the same. Everyone will follow a certain current, because it's "cool" or something. We stop respecting who we really are, and change to something we're not.
And for who's benefit? Anyone but ours.
In today's reading, God used an allegory to explain what Jerusalem was going through. Jerusalem was referred to as a woman that God created. He made her pure, and holy, and wonderful. Everything was going great.
But she needed more. She started disgracing her family by being involved in prostitution, and crimes. She searched for material things, or things that only last a night or two. And she did all of this sin because her life wasn't enough.
Her great, God-given, blessed life wasn't enough. She searched for more, and became a prostitute.
It's just an allegory to explain how Jerusalem because sinful when it was once a wonderful city. But it just made sense to me, how people today are doing the same thing.
They want to be cool, they want to be loved. So they changed themselves. They disrespect what God wants of them. And God was the one who's love is unfailing!
I know there's pressure all over the place to be a certain person. Or to be loved by a certain person. But keep in mind that the "joy" we get from fitting in doesn't compare to God's joy for one second.
God will ALWAYS love us, because He created us. And we need to stick to that unique plan instead of trying to blend into the background.
Peace out.
