March 12th -- Judges 4-5
Read these chapters at http://www.bible.com/ or with the BIBLE READER to the left of this post... there's only two chapters to read today! Woo hoo!
Guess what? Today, we read about Deborah, a women leader of the land of Israel. Yes, you heard me right... a WOMAN leader. I apologize in advance if I'm prejudice against men today... I'm not trying to put down men, just trying to praise the great things women have done!
March is National Women's Month, after all. And, how fitting: today the main focus was on the achievements Deborah did for Israel. She did lead them into battle, and was victorious! Plus, another woman in today's reading, Jael, killed the bad guy who was fleeing from his enemy.
With all these accomplishments, I thought it would be a good idea to talk a little about how the outcasts, and the underdogs can become great in the end. Back in Biblical times, women were pretty low on the totem pole. A man could marry whomever he wanted, and have as many wives as he wanted. Granted, things have changed a little since then for God's people. That injustice has been demolished, thankfully.
But, does that mean injustices don't exist today? Of course not. There are TONS of prejudices and hateful thoughts towards all sorts of people, based on sex, ethnicity, culture, intelligence... even though times have completely changes since back then, a lot of prejudices remain. So, you're probably thinking -- how should I act toward people that are different? Should I still love them? What if they're a bad different?
Isaiah 16.4:
let the outcasts of Moab
settle among you;
be a refuge to them
from the destroyer.’
Couldn't of said it better myself. Sometimes, outcasts, or people that are different from you are perfectly normal once you get to know them. They're just mislead, and need a refuge (that's YOU) to lead them to Jesus. It's written in the Bible, if you don't believe me! Read it again if you want. It'll be here for a while.
However, sometimes there are people who are outcasts that can be dangerous, and that's where this whole "let the outcasts settle among you" thing can get confusing.
I'm not going to answer questions for you. I don't want to be responsible for the outcome, mostly because I am NOT perfect and might steer you wrong. But guess what? I know this one guy, and he's absolutely perfect in every way, shape and form. He never steers anyone wrong.
You need to ask HIM what to do when times are tricky, and when you don't know how to deal with outcasts. His name's Jesus, if you haven't figured it out yet. You can never go wrong by being friendly to outcasts, but God will always tell you what to do when times are tough.
Rely on God in all you do. He will make all your paths straight, and help you make the right decisions. Just like He helped Deborah, He can help you. Take some time to talk with Him, and drop me a line if you need a little encouragement.
PEACE OUT! Have a good weekend!
