Judges 20-21

Read these short two chapters now with the BIBLE READER to the left of this post, or at http://www.bible.com/!

I hope everyone had a fantastical week, but Lord knows I am READY FOR THE WEEKEND!

Let's make this short and simple, but have it carry out a message for everyone throughout the weekend. If you read yesterday, you'd know of the story of the man and his concubine-- ouch. Let's just say BAD THINGS happened to her, and her master went back to Israel (she was violated in another foreign land) and he told everyone in Israel about that land and their evilness.

This is the cool part -- when this guy told everyone in Israel about it, they all stuck up for the poor woman, even thought she was a woman, and she was dead. Regardless, they decided to take revenge on the meanies (called Benjaminites) and destroy their land.

I'm not sure if revenge was the right choice to make here, but I just think it's pretty cool that they stuck up for the lady and defended her land.

That's what I'm trying to stress today, and this weekend. (And possibly forever, if you can remember that far into the future.) When someone is hurt, or even made fun of, you need to be the one to stick up for them.

I know everyone hears this a lot, but what if you were in their shoes? You'd want someone to stick up for you. Granted, people do take a lot of trash after trying to help someone out, but the result overcomes any doubts.

A little pain on your part definitely is much less felt than the joy you get from helping someone.

Now, that doesn't mean to declare war against someone because they made fun of someone or something. But if you try and put yourself in some one's shoes, it really has an impact on that person, to know that someone cares about them, especially when they're in a tough time.

Try to remember that this weekend, whenever you feel that little voice inside your head screaming "oooh, that must of hurt," don't just watch. Help a brother/sister out!

Peace.
