Samuel 22-24

Hello, everyone! I'm doing this blog from an airport! Technology is amazing, right?

Well, today the subject is about following people. Who to follow, who you shouldn't follow behind. If you haven't read today's readings, you can do so now with the BIBLE READER widget to the left of this post, or at www.bible.com.

So, what'd you think? Saul seems like a pretty jealous and evil guy. It's hard to fathom that people actually followed him-- like, religiously almost. As you know, Saul wanted to kill David, for no reason in particular. He just felt it was nessesary to kill someone who was getting more attention than him. Later, we find that we really just didn't want to step down as king... and he knew that David was probably the next one in line.

Anyhow, Saul had all these men that went with him on his murderous journey. It makes me wonder: who do YOU follow? Hopefully, not someone that is on a killing rampage... because that's pretty evil.

However, sometimes we can't really tell if we're "following" someone. For instance, maybe you copy what someone says on a movie, or you try to do what you read in a book. Maybe it's the new fad to go around making fun of people, or turning a simple sentence into something, well... Evil.

Let's take one part of put reading for example. Saul heard that one town helped David by giving him food and equitment. So, Saul and all of his men went to that town and Saul demanded his men to kill all the priests there!! Can you imagine?

Most of Saul's men refused, but one guy decided that he would, and slaughtered all the priests in the city. Poor priests. Also, poor guy! He had his wrapped around the fact that Saul was right about everything, and I am almost positive he regretted killing all those people for helping his lord's "enemy."

Regrets are a horrid thing, too. How do we avoid them?

Isaiah 55:7: The wicked need to abandon their lifestyle and sinful people their plans. They should return to the LORD, and he will show mercy to them, and to their God, for he will freely forgive them.

I don't think I even have to explain that, right? I would just tell everyone that "in order to not follow a sinful person, you have to be a perfect person. You must NEVER sin, or else you're going to be given no mercy."

But, that would be a complete lie, and lying is a sin, afterall :)

The GREAT thing about Christianity is that our God forgives! Forever and ever, Jesus will forgive you. He KNOWS that we're sinners. He knows we are NOT perfect. But He's willing to forgive us for that.

The Bible verse states he will forgive us FREELY, too! So, be careful who you pick to follow. Of course, if you're ever confused on who TO follow, there's this great guy named Jesus who can be your guide.

He IS PERFECT, so there's no question as to if he's the right person to follow or not. Got it?

Good! Have a lovely rest of the weekend, and go in peace!!

Trust your good judgements on who you tend to "follow." Sometimes you are deceived, but if you follow what Jesus would do, then you are pretty safe! God has given us the greatest gift of forgiveness...over and over..but that does not give us free reign to do what is not right. Grandma C and Granny (keep up the good work.)

Hey, thanks! And, I agree about not getting an unlimited amount of forgiveness. When you repent, you don't just ask to be forgiven. You have to try and make a concious effort in order not to repeat that sin.
