March 1st -- Deuteronomy 28-29
Today's reading is only two chapters! Read them now at www.bible.com or with the BIBLE READER to the left of this post!
What a wonderful day! Of course, it IS a Monday, but it's MARCH 1ST! A brand new month, a new start to everything. Today you only have to read two chapters, too! Praise be to God!
On a more serious note, let's talk about today's reading. WHOAH. It was super super intense, and it kind of frightened me a little! I know these rules were stated a long time ago and everything, but God sounded a little threatening, didn't he?
I'm here to try and change that. God sounded so heartless because he wanted to get his point across that He wasn't messing around. That's how I see it, anyway. Do any of you believe He would change the sky to bronze, and make you eat your children? I doubt it. Yes, God has the power to do everything and anything... but I think all these threats were supposed to be metaphors for certain things in life.
First, God talks about how if we follow His commands, and live a good life for Him, then He will bless us. There's not doubt about that. I think that's what the first part of chapter 28 was trying to say. It also included a bunch of examples, but since times have changed, maybe he's referring to all the blessings we have today, like a family, a free country, a home, a job.
And then, God talks about the consequences for NOT obeying Him... which are, like I said, pretty disturbing. Do you think our loving and caring God would actually make people eat their children?!?!
I really hope not. Just like the blessings, I personally think that God is trying to use these extreme punishments as metaphors for what we endure everyday. If we completely disregard God, and purposefully dishonor Him, then He WILL send consequences. Yeah, He might not literally turn the ground into iron, but he might just send a warning call to wake us up into what's important.
And once we see the light, and finally open our eyes into what we are to do... and we FOLLOW JESUS... we'll get blessed!
For all those people out there who don't think there's a God, they really should read today's chapters. It's black-and-white, and lays everything out on the line.
God blesses those who follow him. And... vice-versa.
Got it? Email me with any questions!! Peace out!
