February 10th -- Numbers 7
SHORT ON MONEY THIS MONTH? OFFER YOURSELF.
Only one chapter to read today, folks. Read it on this very website with the BIBLE READER widget to the left of this post, or at www.bible.com.
Anyone reading this ever been to church? Hope so. If not, there's a lovely church bound to be someplace near you... so go and check it out. There's some place for everyone.
Those of you who have been to church, I'm assuming you know what an offering is, correct? The trustees of the church come around with collection plates, and everyone throws in a little money.
There are other types of offerings, too. Like when you offer your time. Or, maybe you can offer your soul. Seems pretty deep. Maybe a little too deep for some of you. It's pretty confusing... offerings, I mean. So, I'm going to lay them out for you all. You are very welcome :)
Types of Offerings:
1. Money (also known as tithes)
2. Time (not literally a clock, offering your efforts to those in need.)
3. Everything else. (Also known as soul.)
Let's talk about the types of offering in the Bible. People offered gold, and silver, and animals, and grain. They weighed things in shekels, which today, is equivalent to .266631 US dollars. (According to Google, anyway.) People back in Biblical times only needed to offer literal and material things in order to be accepted by people, and God.
Now, we can offer three things, which I listed above. Like, for instance... money. In church, (and stated in the Bible) you need to donate 10% of whatever you earn to the church. It's called a tithe. Many families tithe each month, or a big donation every year. So, if you can spare 10%, tithing is very important to the church and the ministries it's trying to accomplish.
Next, you can offer your time. There are so many ways you can offer your time and energy to be a missionary. Simple things, like telling others about Jesus' love, brings joy to God. Or, maybe you're determined to help on a bigger scale, and donate your time to volunteer at church or at a ministry that can really help others.
Finally..... you can offer your soul. Jesus understands that some aren't physically able to do physical labor, and he loves you just the same. Plus, in these tough economical times, you might not be able to tithe very respectably.
So, what do you do? If you'd take a glance back up at the types of offerings list I provided, you can do something pretty special, and combine them all together. If you take monetary offerings, and combine them with your time and energy efforts... guess what?
You've offered everything, (your soul) to Jesus.
Some people might think I'm crazy. Unrealistic, strange, out of line.
But guess what?
The world has become a weird place. So, we might as well deal with it in weird ways.
So get out there! Do something to change the world (preferably for the BETTER,) and make Jesus happy. He was murdered on a cross for my (and your) sins, so it's the least we can do. Make a difference, if not for yourself, or for the world, but for Jesus.
