THE WALK TO EMMAUS
In today's reading, Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and three days later, came back to life. I feel like we often just read through this passage like we don't really care-- it's just a story we're read over and over, a story that we've known by heart since we were little.
But then I read about how the disciples had the walk to Emmaus, after hearing that Jesus was living again. Two disciples were just walking to a village called Emmaus, and they were talking about all that had happened. This is pretty realistic, right?
Nothing too weird so far. In fact, when I was reading this... I just kind of skimmed over all the words, like "Yeah, people are walking to a town and talking. Woo hoo."
But this is where the story gets interesting-- the fact that Jesus started walking with them, and talking to them, and they didn't even notice! They just assumed that He was just another traveler, and they missed out on all He was really saying.
They stayed with Him in Emmaus, and they ate together. When Jesus broke bread and gave thanks for it, then the disciples KNEW He was Jesus, and they must have felt really dumb. But right after their realization-- He was gone.
I guess you can just read this story for the sake of reading a story if you want. But what if we look deeper?
We're God's disciples. Are we walking and talking and going on with our normal happy lives? Do we attempt to NOTICE what God is doing through us? Like Jesus in the story, He is always standing right next to us, trying to make us understand. But the disciples just kept on walking, thinking nothing of Him.
We need to acknowledge that Jesus IS living throughout our lives. He is ALWAYS right next to us, and we sometimes don't even care. Make sure that you know that God is right beside you, forever and always. Don't wait until it's too late-- live with Jesus RIGHT NOW!
He can help you understand, and somehow get through this crazy thing called life.
Peace out.
