Matthew 14-17
ARE YOU CLEAN?

In today's reading, Jesus said:
"Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean.' "
Matthew 15:17-20
I just find that interesting, I guess. This isn't one of those stories that ladies tell at Bible school to little children, like Jesus walking on water or feeding the 5,000.
I think this is because it's such a hard concept to grasp. Something eternal, like what we think or feel in our hearts, is hard to teach to a child-- to anyone, for that matter. It's still hard for ME to feel God inside my heart, because I get distracted by worldly stuff so often.
It's more important to focus on what comes out of our mouths then what we stuff into them.
Don't judge someone on their outer cleanliness... instead look at yourself. Look at your inner cleanliness.
Today's devotion is simple! Look on the inside, and not on the outside.
Peace.
