Matthew 5-6

Read these two chapters now with the BIBLE READER to the right of this post or at http://www.biblegateway.com/. They're definitely worth checking out, they just might of been my favorite chapters to read! They read easy, with few big words :) So check 'em out!

SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO THINK ABOUT.

Today's reading is hard to put into a clean cut devotion. There's SO much going on, and SO many good verses and lessons... I don't know what to pick. But perhaps the thing that really jumped out at me was when Jesus was talking about how we should think on certain subjects, like divorce, adultery, and how we should look at life.

It was really tough to read, I think. Because every time Jesus said "Don't do this" I've done it. Jesus said that if you even THINK about being angry, you're a sinner. You're a sinner if you have ever looked at someone lustfully. Or if you divorce. Or if you tell people that you're doing community service! You aren't supposed to pray in public! I've done allllll of these things, multiple times. So what does that mean? Am I destined for hell? What am I supposed to do now?

It was scaring me, reading all the things Jesus considers sin. But then it just dawned on me-- why Jesus was even saying these things in the first place. He wanted us to be aware that we ARE sinners. Sure, maybe you haven't murdered someone, or worshipped any idols. But guess what? According to Jesus, we're all sinners. No one is perfect!

Jesus is telling us this because He wants us to know that ONLY through Him we are saved. There are soooo many things we're doing wrong EVERYDAY that the ONLY way we can be saved is through faith in Jesus Christ. He is our ultimate sacrifice, our only hope.

Instead of clinging to material life-savers, how about we trust Jesus? We're all sinful. We all make mistakes, so our only hope in redemption is through Jesus Christ.

Our world is so caught up in making ourselves look good! We worry about our clothes, our food, our wants and needs. Why, though? Why worry about looking better when Jesus says His kingdom belongs to those who mourn, those who are poor, those who are hungery for righteousness? His kingdom is open to all people. No matter what social-status you have, no matter how "good" you are. We're all sinners, people.

With faith in Jesus, we shouldn't have to worry about stupid things like clothes and food. Jesus says that we should give all of this away and have faith in Him. So don't worry! Don't worry about stupid things. Have faith and live happily.

Read today's chapters and realize that we're all sinners. The only way to get eternal happiness is through a faith and love for Jesus Christ.

Have a great day. Peace out.

Welcome to the New Testament. Yep, we are all sinners. By the Grace of God we are saved.
