GIVE UNTIL IT HURTS.
Have you ever heard this phrase? There was an interesting story in today's reading. It's one where you THINK it will go a certain way, but God tells you otherwise, and then you're like "Well duh! Why didn't I think of that?"
Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny.
Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on."
Mark 12:41-44
Jesus has very wise things to say here that we should look at. The woman in the story, even though she didn't give as much other people, was looked at with more pleasure. She gave all she had!
It's interesting how Jesus doesn't ask us to give exactly 5 dollars every month, or even exactly 10% to the church, for that matter.
But when we give, (our money, our possessions, our time, our efforts,) we need to do so with GREAT joy and pleasure. Give all we can! Don't just give until it hurts.
Think of all that God has given you, and the next time you get a chance to give, give graciously. We give back to God in everything we do. We help God by helping others!
Peace out.
