1st Kings 19-20
POWER OF PRAYER

How many of you have ever heard your pastor or even a normal person talk about the power of prayer? Before I read today, it was just kind of like this cool sounding phrase that I knew was true, but I hadn't really thought about before.

But today's reading does a perfect job at talking about what prayer can do, and what happens if you don't pray. If you haven't already, you only have to read two chapters today, so please read 1st Kings 19-20 at www.bible.com or with the BIBLE READER to the left of this post.

Alright so we have this guy named Elijah, a prophet. While his entire surroundings believed in this non-existent so-called "god," he stayed true to the REAL God, and was out casted from his people. He left his home, afraid of what they'd do to him. Then, he realized that there was no reason for him to carry on.

Have you ever felt like that before? You feel powerless sometimes, when stuff doesn't go your way. Especially when you are trying to do something Godly, and it backfires. It's hard to find encouragement when things go wrong. That's how Elijah felt, anyhow.

But God didn't turn his back on Elijah. He even gave him a little encouragement, motioning him to get up from his resting place. God even provided him with what he needed to carry on. This isn't a fairytale, or a story passed down to entertain people. It was actually true, and still is. Elijah the prophet really existed, and so does the God that helped him out!

Israel (the land Elijah was fleeing from) had no such luck with help from God, because as I've already explained, they sought the help of another "god" (who by the way, doesn't exist.) Anyway, they decided to get into some war with another place, and guess who was having trouble? That's right. The people who neglected God.

Now a days, that doesn't necessarily mean God will smite you or strike you with lightening if you forget to keep Him in your life. But it's always important to follow Him, and if something happens that's not in your favor, don't freak out and almost quit, like Elijah. Remember that God does everything for a reason, and sometimes bad things can help you realize how much you really need Jesus and His love for all people.

If you keep faith in Him, and pray about all your doubts and troubles, then there WILL be some power behind your results. In fact, that's what the reading was all about, in my eyes. The power of faith. THE POWER OF PRAYER.

I'll be here tomorrow, (and the day after that... and so on and so fourth . . . )

Peace out.

On this earth, God does not promise us that bad things will not happen to us, that there will not be pain or suffering in our lives, but He does promise to give us the strength to endure...and you can bet He has a plan for us through all of it. The key is to remember to pray, even though we feel sometimes He doesn't hear us, or answer us, as the power of prayer is amazing. Other doors open, and we feel the peace, just knowing we CAN pray to Him. I will catch up on your devotions when I return Carly. If I get the chance to use internet, I will catch them while gone. Keep up the good work and spread the word.
